USMNT legend says Inter Miami can handle preseason schedule

Image
How much is too much? Having spent big to bring Lionel Messi and an ever-widening circle of ex-Barça colleagues to MLS, Inter Miami are eager to get the most out of their investment. The globe-trotting preseason tour began with Game s in El Salvador and Texas , before jetting off to Saudi Arabia and soon on to Japan and Hong Kong . While the commercial gain is obvious, some are concerned that Miami’s intense schedule could take a toll on their aging superstars. But former Manchester united and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has dismissed those claims, saying that the medical resources available to modern players will help keep them fit and healthy. “There are fears that the hangover from all this Travel and all these Game s will affect Messi and co. I think that’s a convenient excuse,” the former USMNT goalkeeper wrote. “I don’t buy it because preseason is for building fitness and sports science is the be-all and end-all of these clubs. They’re monitoring every single heartbeat o

Government cuts plunge 2024 Argentina MotoGP round into doubt

Image
With only a month and a half to go before the start of the championship on 10 March in Qatar, Motorsport.com understands that the third stop of the calendar, scheduled for the weekend of 5-7 April in Argentina, is in serious danger of not being held. From the very beginning of his presidency, which began on 10 December, Milei has implemented in Argentina a policy of spending cuts in all areas of the national state, visualised in the reduction by half of government ministries, which went from 18 to nine immediately with the arrival of the new mandate. Within the framework of this programme of budget cuts, the inclusion of the direct expenses of the Argentina Grand Prix is practically unjustifiable, since the event receives a significant amount of money from the national government - a fundamental factor together with the provincial government of Santiago del Estero and the private promoter for the realisation of the race. US National Security Agency buys web browsing data

The US National Security Agency buys Americans' internet browsing information from commercial brokers without a warrant, the agency's director told Democratic Senator Ron Wyden in a letter made public on Thursday. Wyden, who released the Dec. 11 letter, called upon US intelligence officials to stop using Americans' personal data without their express knowledge and consent, saying it was unlawful. "Such records can identify Americans who are seeking help from a suicide hotline or a hotline for survivors of sexual assault or domestic abuse," Wyden said in a statement. The NSA responded that the information has significant value for national security and cybersecurity missions and is used sparingly. "At all stages, NSA takes steps to minimize the collection of US person information, to include application of technical filters," a spokesperson for the agency said in an email. Wyden, a privacy and internet freedom advocate, had blocked the appointment

Fossil hunters unearth incredible ‘Rosetta Stone’ skeleton of a dinosaur that roamed Australia’s vast inland sea 100million years ago

Image
Three amateur palaeontologists have discovered the remains of a 100- million -year-old long-necked marine reptile at an outback Queensland station. In an Australian first, the complete skeleton of an ancient plesiosaur, or extinct marine reptile, was discovered at a sprawling remote property in the McKinlay region. The rare fossil was discovered by a station owner, Cassandra, alongside fellow amateur fossil sleuths Sally and Cynthia, known as the ‘Rock Chicks’. The discovery has been described as the Rosetta Stone of marine reptile palaeontology, a reference to the ancient carved stone discovered in Egypt in 1799 and considered to hold the key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphics. A team of museum palaeontologists Travel led to the remote site to collect the fossil of the elasmosaur, a plesiosaur that lived alongside the dinosaurs. The Elasmosaurus lived in the Eromanga Sea, which covered large parts of inland Australia between 140 and 100million years ago. The recovery

Harden and Kawhi unleash the storm

Image
“ They came out and hit us in the mouth, but we ended up playing Clippers basketball, and the rest is history, ” said James Harden after riding a thunderous 22-0 run. In just over five and a half minutes, an earthquake caused a 103-114 score to turn into a final score of 125-114. The Clippers lost 18 points (86-104) with eleven minutes remaining. It felt like one of those cold morning games at the old Staples Center (now Crypto.com Arena), where the Clippers often play with mistakes, and downtown LA seems to be waiting in silence for the afternoon. The Clippers have transformed into a different team from their past selves. Recently, they discovered a winning formula with an ultra-small ball lineup consisting of Russell Westbrook, Norm Powell, James Harden, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard. This lineup brought out a new level of defensive aggressiveness that had not been seen before. Even Kawhi Leonard, struggling earlier in the game, found his rhythm and scored 14 points in the last fiv

This is the Taylor Swift-inspired menu on offer in the Chiefs - Bills Divisional playoff

Image
It remains to be seen whether Taylor Swift will be at Highmark Stadium to watch her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, in action against the Buffalo Bills. Either way, it appears that the Bills are not about to miss the opportunity to cash in on the NFL’s new-found association with the pop icon , who has become a prominent supporter of the Chiefs this season. Bills caterers celebrate Chiefs’ “star-studded” fanbase In a press release on Friday, the Bills’ catering partner, Delaware North, revealed that Swift-themed food will be available to fans at Sunday’s Divisional playoff . Match-goers at Highmark Stadium will be able be able to buy ‘Bad Blood waffle fries’ , which Delaware North describe as “a 2-foot display of spiced waffle fries featuring each city’s culinary specialty - topped half with Buffalo chicken and blue cheese and half with Kansas City Cattleman’s BBQ pork, cole slaw and bread-and-butter pickles”. There will also be ‘Karma quesadillas’ , which consist

Jose Mourinho's agent drops hint over next move after Roma departure

Image
Jose Mourinho's agent has confirmed the Portuguese boss will only return to work with a "top side" following his departure from Roma. Roma suddenly cut ties with Mourinho earlier this week after a slump in form, with the 60-year-old visibly emotional as he bid farewell to supporters. He had publicly admitted his desire to sign a new contract and was not considering options elsewhere at the time of his departure. 90min revealed shortly after that links between Mourinho and either Chelsea or Newcastle United were simply speculative at this point, although the boss is expected to receive further contact from Saudi Arabia after rejecting a move to Al Hilal during the summer. Asked for his client's next move, Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes told La Gazzetta dello Sport : "It’s too early to say now. He is a coach for top sides; he’s always worked for top sides. He is an excellent coach and he’s proved it everywhere he’s worked. "Saudi clubs already called him mo

What MotoGP’s 2023 crash stats say about the sprint format

Image
Like them or lump them, sprint races are here to stay in MotoGP . Their introduction may have been sudden and overwhelming, but the primary aim of them was to get more people interested in the series. And a look at the trackside figures for 2023 reveals that was definitely the case. Of the 20 rounds run in 2023, 15 events showed an uptick in Saturday attendance compared to 2022. Of the rest, Austin's figures are not available, India was a first-time event, Indonesia and Argentina dipped slightly, while Australia’s schedule was altered due to the weather, meaning the GP ran on Saturday. Overall, 16 events topped their 2022 figures. There are some caveats to this that must be factored in. The 2022 season was still very much in the throes of the COVID hangover, and so some events were likely to have been affected by that. The French GP saw an all-time attendance record of 278,805 last year. But France has two immensely popular riders and Claude Michy’
