The Houston Astros will host the Seattle Mariners for Game two of their division series this Saturday from Minute Maid Park on FOX. Seattle blitzed Houston last night to win by nine, 10-1.

Mariners Betting Preview

Seattle enters at 44-43 after defeating Houston. The Mariners humbled the Astros with a lopsided victory, and they’ll attempt to build on that performance here. The Seattle offense is scoring 4.29 runs per Game, while batting .227, with a .308 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.55 ERA, with a 1.19 WHIP. Teoscar Hernandez is hitless over his last three Games, but he still leads Seattle in home runs (15) and RBI (49). Ty France had multiple hits in the blowout win over Houston, and he leads the Mariners in hits (88), with splits of .267/7/36. J.P. Crawford brings an eight-Game hit streak into this matchup, and he’s posting an identical line of .253/8/32. Julio Rodriguez plated a pair of runs in the Game one victory, and he’s second on the team in homers (13), and now tied for the team-lead in RBI at 49.

Bryan Woo (0-1, 7.30 ERA, 20 Ks) will start for Seattle. The rookie pitcher delivered the first quality start of his career last week in San Francisco, striking out seven over six innings pitched, while holding the Giants to two runs en route to a Mariners victory. Woo has put a messy debut behind to pitch five straight solid outings, allowing no more than two runs in each of them.

Astros Betting Preview

Houston enters at 49-40 after falling to Seattle. The Astros never responded to a brutal fourth inning from the Mariners, and they’ll look to respond swiftly Saturday. The Houston offense is scoring 4.66 runs per Game, while batting .246, with a .314 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.32 ERA, with a 1.25 WHIP. Kyle Tucker had his nine-Game hit streak snapped in Game one, and he leads the Astros in hits (93), with splits of .290/13/55. Alex Bregman supplies the lone run in last night’s contest, and he’s tied with Tucker for the team-lead in RBI at 55.

Framber Valdez (7-6, 2.49 ERA, 84 Ks) will take the mound for Houston. The sixth-year pitcher took the loss last week in St. Louis, after allowing four runs in six innings to the Cardinals. Valdez has been pretty consistent overall this season, as his last outing marked just the second time he’s allowed over three runs through sixteen starts. Valdez is 4-1 against the AL West this season, and this will mark his first time facing Seattle here in 2023.

Seattle vs Houston Trends

Seattle is 39-47 against the spread this season, with a 38-48 O/U record. Houston is 45-40 ATS this year, with a 42-41-2 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Seattle really put it on Houston last night, and I think the hosts get some retribution Saturday night. Framber Valdez should be able to come in and restore order, and it should come down to a matter of run support. The Astros should have plenty of motivation at the plate after last night’s spanking, so let’s trust them in a bounce back spot here in Game two. Back Houston for this AL West battle.
